Leaked image offers glimpse of HTC's new 'China' OS

China is currently the world’s largest smartphone market, and quite a few manufacturers are trying to get their hands on a slice of the pie. Earlier reports indicated that Taiwanese manufacturer HTC was developing a smartphone operating system specifically for China. New leaks, in the form of an image, is now giving users a glimpse at what might be headed for the Chinese market.

The image shows the home screen of the new OS running on an HTC smartphone. From what can be seen, it looks like the new home screen may have been influenced by the Live Tiles UI of Windows Phone. There is no way to confirm yet whether the new HTC OS will come with the same kind of UI, though. There also seems to be differently sized 'Tiles' in the new HTC OS, and the overall UI seems to come with a flat aesthetic.

The leaked image does suggest that the new OS is already far into the development process. Android Community has said that there are some who have already titled the new OS as “Sense 5.5”. Along with the rumour, the report also confirms that the Taiwanese company is trying to wind up the new OS quickly with the aim of possibly showing off the real deal before the year ends.

While China is definitely a big smartphone consumer there is a lot of Android-based competition in that market to reckon with. Chinese government a bit uneasy about the degree to which the market is reliant on the Google-owned platform. HTC’s move to launch a new China-specific OS seems to be a logical move to appease government officials and also increase the profits of the company. A lot will depend on how the market reacts to this move.
