The XOLO A800 has a neat long and slender build. Even the handset looks extremely appealing with smooth finish with refined plastic finish. The only problem here is the glittery front is prone to fingerprints. The phone is fitted with three buttons at the bottom and there are also front facing camera and sensors on top. The slim and trendy phone is fitted with volume rocker on the left and microUSB port below. On the top is the power/sleep button and 3.5mm headphone jack leaving the side completely empty.
The phone is designed to accommodate two SIM cards with only supporting 3G. There is a hot-swap microSD card compartment along with an 8GB microSD card. The A800 offers a supreme build for a budgeted phone which is tough to locate these days with the constant rise in mobile phone prices.
XOLO has designed the A800 with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich mechanism with shortcuts to the settings and notification bar. There are scrollable toggle switches in the notifications area. The setting menu is designed differently with new icons and more sub-menus to accommodate dual SIM’s, along with sound profiles and tab to shutdown and restart the phone. The efficient functioning of the phone is contributed by the snappy dual-core MediaTek MT6577 SoC and 512MB of homescreens. When swipping across the homescreen, the minute lag and shutter emerges which further enhances the smooth handling experience of the phone.
This phone has excellent colour and text quality along with excellent viewing angles. The supreme pixel count is contributed by the qHD resolution (540x960). The A800 is equipped with an ambient light sensor that detects the intensity of brightness in the background. The phone is inserted with stock audio and video player, the audio quality is stunning. The speaker has balanced volume, but not beneficial for video shooting. The file format is similar to the stock ICS. There is FM radio and MKV, AVI keys for additional support.
Video quality on the stock player is above average but not great, the SD videos also tend to falter. This problem can be fixed with MX Player and turning on the decoder from hardware to software. The handset is equipped with 4GB internal memory that can be expanded through a microSD card. The MX player managed to function with 720p MKV, AVI and MOV files with hardware acceleration. The Full HD resolution is 1080p.
The XOLO A800 is rolled out with two bands for GSM and one for 3G. This is efficient in India, but while travelling it might not function with international plug points. The connectivity options are Wi-Fi 802.11 ‘n’, Bluetooth v3.0 and microUSB for charging and data transfer. There is also GPS with A-GPS and Google Maps for navigation. The XOLO 800 has excellent features for a Rs. 11,999 phone with dual SIM card facilities, amazing brightness intensity, media quality and impressive screen resolution. This phone has all the characteristics of a quality phone in a tight budget, which makes this phone a worthy buy.
