It’s December, and you know what that means. No, we’re not talking about Secret Santa presents, but end of the year stats for social networks. While Facebook and YouTube released their respective end of the year lists of most popular stories and videos on their sites, Twitter has released its “2013 Year on Twitter” website too. Twitter has undoubtedly been a social networking website where news flies and celebrities expose their private lives on. This year was no different. Tweets about the floods in north India, the Boston bombings, Sachin’s retirements and the Royal Baby made it to the top of this list released by Twitter. #ThankYouSachin


On the Year on Twitter website, you can run through multiple categories to check out top tweets from 2013. Some of the most Retweeted tweets of 2013, according to Twitter, have been ones from Glee star Lea Michele and from the account of The Fast and the Furious actor Paul Walker. Michele was thanking her fans for supporting her through her boyfriend Cory Monteith’s death while Walker’s associates used his account to announce his death in a car crash. On a lighter note, the third most RTd tweet of the year has been from One Direction singer Niall Horan who was celebrating the fact that he wasn’t a teenager anymore. Twitter has also put up a month-by-month list of all the trends that ruled the website for a long period of time and tweets associated with them. Needless to say, natural disasters such as the Uttarakhand floods, Cyclone Phailin, the death of Nelson Mandela, Sachin Tendulkar, sports in general and some really hilarious events are found on the list. #ThankYouSachin ended up being one of the most widely used hashtag in November. Tweets belonging to cricketers – both past and current players – and from the Master Blaster himself feature on the list prominently.The Uttarakhand floods that devastated parts of north India earlier in the year and the IPL cricket tournament are also part of the month-wise breakdown list.
