Twitter redesigns iOS, Android apps; Direct Messages now support images

A major update to the iOS and Android versions of Twitter is here. The most important features brought along by the micro-blogging website are the abilities to swipe between timelines and share photos over Direct Messages. The changes are very similar to the features that had already been introduced for alpha and beta testers for Twitter on Android. In a blog post announcing the arrival of these new features, Jeremy Gordon for Twitter wrote, “Every day, people come to Twitter to find out what’s happening in the world and talk about it. Today, we’re updating our mobile apps to make this even easier,” When you’re accessing Twitter on your Android and iOS devices, you will now be able to swipe between your timelines. Essentially, you will be able to jump between Home to Discover to Activity.

Besides, there are a bunch of more updates with this release on platform levels. For example, on the iOS version of the app, the new in-app notifications will inform you when people send you a DM or Favourite, Retweet ot Reply to your Tweets. You can also choose to see interactions only from people you follow now and see the Direct Messaging option a lot more prominently.Speaking of Direct Messages, you can now share and view photos via DMs on your mobile phone. Sadly enough, you can’t just yet send images in DM via the web version of Twitter, but you can still view them. With the addition on the mobile version of the app, web support should not be too far away. You can download Twitter for iOS and Twitter for Android from their respective app stores. Be warned, the user interface will be a lot different that what you’re used to seeing and will need a little relearning to make optimal use of the app.
