Three-day Google Online Shopping Festival to begin December 11

If you have been feeling bad about being left out of the Cyber Monday madness, there's respite at hand. India's own mega internet sale is starting this week.


After seeing a tremendous response last year, Google has announced its mega online shopping bonanza which will be on from December 11 to December 13. This is the second Google Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) which will bring all the leading e-commerce players in India on a common platform to provide the best deals available on the web. This year, Google has enlisted more than 200 partners from across India, from lesser-known e-tailers to the big names. These include locals & classifieds companies, online ticketing sites, auto companies, companies telecom companies, fashion labels, health and wellness companies, financial services and more.

Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director, Google India said, “Great Online shopping festival is India’s version of cyber Monday in the west and is an exciting platform to raise awareness and consumer adoption of online shopping in India. With over 200 million Internet users in the country, more and more Internet users are opting to shop online and fueling the growth of both large multinational and homegrown companies. Industry estimates suggest that there are close to 20 million online shoppers in India and it’s estimated to grow to 50 million in next few years making it a 16 billion dollar industry.” Google had initiated the online shopping fest to boost the adoption of online shopping in India. It says that most retailers saw over 350 per cent growth in daily sales. According to its statistics, 50 per cent buyers made online purchases for the first time.
