Spotify Shuffle free streaming available on mobile devices, now with added Led Zeppelin

Spotify has announced that it will let users of its free service to stream music on their tablets for the first time since the company turned on its mobile subscription service.

Company CEO Daniel Ek revealed the news at a New York press event this morning - confirming earlier rumours that Spotify was preparing to make mobile streaming free.

The new service will be ad-supported, and will work on both Android and iOS. It will focus on a Shuffle feature, which lets you pick an artist or playlist and stream a random mix of tracks, rather than individual songs. You'll be able to skip tracks, but it's very much a radio-style service.

You won't be able to cache songs for offline playback, so this is truly just a streaming service - for features like this you'll have to pay £9.99 a month for a Premium subscription. The new features will be available soon in every country that currently has Spotify, as well as 20 new markets announced today.

Spotify also became the only music streaming service to have rock legends Led Zepplin in its catalogue, making it the only choice for ageing metal-heads.
