Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet on sale tomorrow through John Lewis

Nokia's first tablet, the Lumia 2520, will go on sale in the UK tomorrow exclusively through retailer John Lewis, after it secured a sales deal with the Finnish smartphone manufacturer.

The British retailer said it will also offer a two-year guarantee with the Windows RT device at no extra cost.

Harry Boughton, John Lewis' junior buyer for tablets and telecoms said: “We're excited to announce the launch of the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet exclusive to John Lewis. We have seen a continuing demand for tablets, selling one every 15 seconds, and we think the addition of this tablet to our range will appeal to customers looking to do more than surf the web."

The Lumia 2520 has a 10.1in, Full HD display which uses Nokia's ClearBlack IPS technology for richer colours and deeper blacks. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.2GHz and has a 6.7-megapixel camera paired with ZEISS optics.

The 4G-equipped device comes with Microsoft's Windows RT 8.1 operating system and Microsoft Office pre-installed, which should make it suitable for customers who rely on Excel, Word, PowerPoint or Outlook for work.

The tablets also come with an exclusive “Dragons Adventure” application. Developed in partnership with DreamWorks Animation, the app works together with HERE Maps and LiveSight offering an augmented reality experience. However, Windows RT is suffering from a lack of manufacturer support, with Nokia and Microsoft itself being the last remaining companies actively selling devices running the operating system - it remains to be seen if the Lumia 2520's colourful designs can make up for a lack of software support in the eyes of customers.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 will be available in Gloss Red and Silk Black, with prices starting from £399.
