LG G Flex with curved display coming to India in Feb 2014 for Rs 60,000-65,000

Just aswe expected, LG has announced the G Flex, its first curved smartphone in India. The company says the G Flex will go on sale in February 2014. Though the exact price isn’t announced, LG India’s Marketing Head told reporters that the price range would be somewhere around Rs 60,000 to Rs 65,000.

The company plans to announce the exact price as it gets closer to the launch. Amit Gujral, Marketing head, LG India revealed that the company isn't going for an immediate release for the G Flex as its still testing consumer behaviour and is also in the process of preparing a sales campaign.

Premature announcement?

Announced in India, coming in Feb

Measuring 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9 x 8.7mm and weighing 177 grams, it takes design cues from the G2. The G Flex sports a 6-inch 720p Plastic OLED (POLED) display. The design is vertical oriented as the phone is curved on the horizontal axis. One of the highlights of the device is the “self healing” protective film for the back panel. LG claims that the phone can heal itself against minor scratches and bumps. The special protective film on the back cover will ensure that the hairline scratches disappear within minutes.

Under the hood, it is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor (MSM8974) clocked at 2.26 GHz and coupled with 2GB of RAM. On the connectivity front, one can expect support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB 3.0.

Here’s a quick look at some of its key specifications:

  • 6-inch HD display with 1280 x 720 pixels of resolution

  • Wi-Fi, 3G, LTE,

  • NFC, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS

  • 13-megapixel rear camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera

All of this is fuelled by a 3,500mAh battery. The LG G Flex runs the older Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 version, and there is no word on updates yet.

Besides the new “healing” feature, LG has also added a host of features that take advantage of the curved screen. A feature called QTheater lets users quickly access photos, videos and YouTube directly from the lockscreen just by dragging outwards along the curved surface with both fingers. It creates a theatre curtain effect before introducing the content. The phone also comes with a “dual window” mode that allows users to multitask better and also a “swing-lock screen” that keeps changing the device’s wallpaper depending on how the phone is held in your hands.
