Just days before the Xbox One hits its first few markets, Microsoft has released the companion SmartGlass app for iOS and Android. The app is available on Google Play and the iTunes App Store for free, and will provide functionality such as allowing you to navigate through the Xbox One's UI using the smartphone. Some of the features of the app include the ability to control your media and set top box through SmartGlass and browsing the web on your TV while controlling it with your smartphone. The app's biggest feature, however, is that it allows some games to use your smartphone or tablet as a second screen, which adds to gameplay. For example, while you play Battlefield 4, your iPad can be used as a screen dedicated to Commander Mode.

The app also brings some extra features, such as the ability to search, browse and pin content to play on your Xbox One. Social features of the app include the ability to track achievements, get game help, message friends and watch recorded gameplay footage that has been shared through Xbox Live.Sadly enough, the app only seems to be available to those who live in countries where the Xbox One is making its debut in a couple of days. The app shows up as incompatible with our smartphones on Google Play, and refuses to show itself on the iTunes App Store. While you’re eagerly waiting for the Xbox One to come out, you can check out our list of games for the console that are shaping up to be definite must-buys
