HTC has announced that its HTC One handset will be receiving the Android 4.4 'KitKat' update, unveiled last night alongside Google's flagship Nexus 5, within the next 90 days.
Despite facing a potential sales ban in the UK as the result of legal action from Nokia, HTC has confirmed that it will bring a version of Android 4.4 'KitKat' to the HTC One within the next three months - complete with the Sense UI overlay and other HTC-specific tweaks and modifications.
Designed to replace Android 4.3 'Jelly Bean,' Android 4.4 brings a wealth of improvements including support for lower-power sensors, better memory management which allows it to run smoothly on devices with as little as 512MB of RAM, better battery life, and boosted security. All of these features will make it across to the HTC One, the company has confirmed, although the refined user interface visible on stock Android devices will be overridden by HTC's own Sense UI.
Speaking to Engadget, HTC's Jason Mackenzie suggested that the roll-out will take 90 days at the most with network-locked handsets taking the longest time. Those who purchased their HTC One devices SIM-free and unlocked can expect to see the update within 30 days, while those who purchased the HTC One Google Play Edition - which replaces the HTC-customised operating system with a stock Android build - will only have to wait 15 days.
