Audi A4 2014 a no-show at LA, but rumours persist

Audi may have disappointed fans by failing to show off its rumoured Audi A4 2014 model year family at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but that hasn't stopped leaks from appearing suggesting the specifications and features of the upcoming redesign.

Under development to compete directly with the Mercedes C-Class 2014 model, it is claimed, the Audi A4 2014 has been rumoured for introducing towards the middle of next year with a raft of improvements designed to keep the company in the game.

According to details obtained by German automotive publication Auto Motor und Sport, the new model year A4 will include mostly subtle changes to what Audi clearly believes is already a winning design. Claimed changes include shifted headlights with optional full-LED upgrades, improved air intakes in the front grille, and a tweaked spoiler lip on the lid of the boot.

Inside, the Audi A4 2014 is claimed to include a redesigned centre-console with a head-up display located in the rear-view mirror in addition to a touch-sensitive display in the centre console - already a feature of the company's A8 and A6 series. This will be in addition to the ability to control the in-car infotainment system through speech - with rumours, thoroughly unconfirmed, even suggesting the possibility of gesture-based control.

Under the bonnet, Audi is claimed to have concentrated on improving efficiency rather than power. The new models will include roughly the same power output as their outgoing equivalents, but with the use of cylinder shut-off technology to boost fuel efficiency - turning the four-cylinder engines into two-cylinder engines at low loads, with a claimed 36ms response time to fire up the sleeping cylinders when extra power is required. The A4 family is also claimed to be getting a plug-in hybrid, featuring a 95bhp electric motor alongside a 2.0-litre TFSI engine, some time in 2015.

Audi, for its part, is keeping silent regarding the various rumours - at least, until it's ready for a formal unveiling.
