AMD launches R9 290 graphics card for Rs 24,900

AMD has launched its new Radeon R9 290 graphics card, which is the latest addition to the company’s recent R9 series of GPUs. The R9 290 is essentially joins the ranks with the recently-launched R9 270X, R9 280X and R9 290X. It uses the company’s new Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, and has built-in support for AMD’s recently-unveiled Mantle API.“With the AMD Radeon R9 290 GPU, AMD cements its position as the provider of ultimate gaming experiences,” said Matt Skynner, General Manager and Corporate Vice President of AMD Graphics Business Unit. “We deliver on the promise of world-class performance and features with the R9 Series graphics cards. With new innovations like Mantle and AMD TrueAudio technology, AMD brings an exceptional gaming experience for enthusiasts while defying the limits of audio and visual realism.”

It uses AMD’s TrueAudio technology and should theoretically be able to handle almost any game players can throw at it. The TrueAudio technology is meant to work well with stereo headsets and speakers, and involves a dedicated audio processor built into the GPU core.The R9 290 is also powerful enough to be able to handle UltraHD (4K) resolutions as well as AMD’s multi-monitor Eyefinity technology. The GPU sports 2,560 stream processing units and 4GB of GDDR5 memory with up to 5.0Gbps memory clock speed. It also supports a maximum of 320GB/s memory bandwidth, and has the 4.85 TFLOPS in terms of computing power. The GPU itself is clocked at 947MHz, and supports DirectX 11.2 and OpenGL 4.3 along with AMD’s own Mantle.The AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card will be available through various vendors with their own little modifications made to it for $399, which roughly translates to Rs 24,900.
