Tata Sky has introduced a new application for subscribers called “Everywhere TV”. Using the application, subscribers will be able to access TV channels and on-demand movies on their phones. The company says that users will be able to not just watch live TV but also control their TV services using the Catch up TV feature. With the app, users will be able to choose from a selection of about 50 channels on a single platform. Tata Sky is providing this option instead of having subscribers download and pay for multiple apps offering different channels or services.
TV on-demand
The app has been released as a move to popularise the Tata Sky brand with customers, even as their demands evolve. "The idea is to let our subscribers watch TV while they are travelling or when they are out of home. All that they need is a good 3G mobile connection or a Wi-Fi connectivity," Tata Sky’s Chief Commercial Officer, Vikram Mehra was quoted as saying. "We started the 'a la carte' option to let customers choose what channels they want to watch, we introduced the recording option so that they can watch programmes later. Now, our next step is to let them watch live while on the move via mobiles," he said. The company plans to expand the menu option in the coming months, taking the number to somewhere over 200. Tata Sky does see the potential in releasing such an application, thanks to people wanting to watch videos on the move. The fact that the company found that 88 percent of its subscribers owned either a smartphone, a tablet or both, sealed the deal for it. The Everywhere TV app is already live for iOS devices for an admin fee of Rs 60 a month and Tata Sky hopes to bring it to Android soon too.
