iPad Mini with Retina Display predicted to be in short supply

Apple's iPad Mini with Retina Display tablet could be in extremely short supply come release day, with analysts predicting that only the very first in the queue will be able to get their hands on one.

Industry rumours prior to Apple's announcement earlier this week had suggested that low manufacturing yields of the 7.9in high-resolution display would lead to a delay that could push the device's launch to early 2014. Although that prediction proved untrue, analysts are now suggesting that the display is still scarce and will likely result in very low stock levels at launch.

According to a report from Rhoda Alexander of IHS, quoted by CNET, supply of the tablets is going to be "ridiculously tight," leaving those who aren't willing to camp out in front of an Apple Store for days ahead of the launch potentially waiting a considerable length of time to get their hands on the device.

Tellingly, Apple has yet to formally announce a release date for the tablet. Although the iPad Air, formerly known as the iPad 5, will be available to buy online and through high-street stores on the 1st of November, the company only says that the iPad Mini with Retina Display will be available next month - but not precisely when.

Apple has, as is usual for the company, not issued comment on projected stock levels, but those hoping to pick up an iPad Mini with Retina Display before Christmas are advised to keep their eyes peeled for a release date announcement.
