HTC announces five limited edition units of gold-plated One

Looks like gold mania has gripped the smartphone segment, and we all know whom to blame. Soon after Apple launched the iPhone 5s, the golden hue seems to have become the colour of the season. We saw the Samsung S4 dipped in gold last month, as well as real gold versions of the HTC One and One mini listed on Goldgenie. Finally, HTC UK has officially announced the One that is created using real gold. Only five units of this special edition smartphone will be made available, and they've been crafted to celebrate the eighteenth anniversary of the MOBO Awards. The Gold HTC One is priced at £2,750 (approx. Rs 2,72,856), making it the most expensive smartphone in the HTC lineup. A special MOBO 18 logo will be etched on the rear panel of the smartphone. The limited edition gold HTC One will be presented to the winner of Best Newcomer category at the eighteenth anniversary of the MOBO Awards. Phil Blair, HTC President, Europe, Middle East and Africa said, "The best artists have always been given gold discs to celebrate their success, but today most people listen to music on their phone. We wanted to celebrate that fact."
