GTA 5 Online launches with bugs and blocked servers

Rockstar has apologised for launch-day problems with GTA Online, which adds a comprehensive multiplayer mode to the best-selling Grand Theft Auto 5.

Giving itself some extra time to iron out bugs with the multiplayer portion of the game, Rockstar launched GTA 5 as a single-player experience with the promise that seamless multiplayer support for up to 16 players, growing to 32 players in a future update, would be added later as a free download. That download went live yesterday, but many players are reporting problems in getting it to work - with Rockstar's servers apparently buckling under the load.

Rockstar has confirmed multiple issues with GTA Online at launch, including a Rockstar Cloud Servers Unavailable message which prevents players from logging in to the service at all; freezing when loading the first race of a multiplayer session; time-out errors during multiplayer matchmaking; disconnections and server-related error messages during gameplay; instant failure messages on selected missions; and issues with the company's Social Club service.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this," the company told fans in a statement on its support site. "We are continuing to look into these issues and are working around the clock on resolving them as quickly as possible. This includes close monitoring of our Support systems, forums, social media, and in-game data to measure traffic along with Community sentiment to ensure ongoing improvements to stability".

The company has advised gamers to subscribe to the official support page to be updated when the issues are resolved.
