Notion Ink launches I'm Shakti, a quick-firing emergency response app

Notion Ink, makers of the Adam Android-based tablet, has launched a new app for Android devices called I'm Shakti. This app is aimed at assisting users during distress or emergency situations. On installing the app, the user will have to set some emergency contacts. On pressing the power button five times in succession within 2 seconds, the app will send the user’s location (if found) along with a text message to the listed emergency contacts and also inform them about the user's distress. The app finds the location via GPS, cell-towers, and Wi-Fi. In case, the location isn’t detected, the app will send the message and continue to look for an approximate location, which will then be sent in another SMS to the same emergency contacts.

Rohan Shravan, founder & CEO at Notion Ink said, “When we are in a panic situation, we don’t have time to unlock the phone, look for the application and select that one feature to help you immediately. We are confident that this application will make a significant impact in emergency situations.” The app also allows users to customise their emergency SMS. There are additional features too, including the option to turn off all connectivity services and dim the screen and kill all running applications in case of critically low battery state. Another option lets you put your phone in a state of complete silence. Owing to the personal safety problems rife in many parts of the country, there has been a rise in safety apps and I'm Shakti will go up against the likes of FightBack, Scream Alarm and Damini. I'm Shakti is available for Android and can be downloaded here.
